1988

BAD SISTER was founded in 1988. Petra (vocals), Sven (guitars), Jörn (bass), Werner (keyboards) and Kai-Ove (drums), they played together for a long time in a band called „Bogart Joint“. But over the years their musical influences had changed – from floating pop to rough blues, melodic hardrock and classical AOR. It only took a short time to find a name for the project: „Bogart Joint“ turned into BAD SISTER.

It really started with a bang: BAD SISTER won the Schleswig-Holstein-Rockfestival in september 1988 und took part in the German Rock Contest in Wuerzburg two months later. At the same time the band began with composing and recording sessions in preparation for the first album – a sampler with a couple of bands out of the Schleswig-Holstein region.

1989

„The Living Desert“ is the title of the sampler, featuring six bands from the most northern region of Germany, for example „Toy“ (Flensburg) and BAD SISTER. Petra and the sisters contribute the tracks "Running Wild“ and „Cat On The Run“. All

songs are recorded by Micky Koch and mixed by the well-known producer Geoff Peacey. Good news follows: BAD SISTER are going to record the first own album. Ten tracks are picked out for "Heartbreaker“, the title of the first record.

In july/august BAD SISTER records „Heartbreaker“ at the UAM-studios in Lueneburg. Just before the start of the studio-work Kai Beyer joins the band to complete the line-up. Produced by Birger Holm ("Call me Quincy“) the music style of the debut-album varies between classical melodicrock („Without You“), rough rock’n’roll („Alligator“), mainstream oriented midtempo („Road To Nowhere“) and even funkrock ("Raise It Up").

During the „Heartbreaker“-tour 1989 BAD SISTER was promoting their first album with a lot of gigs all over Germany, for example at the Juebek-Festival in front of several thousand visitors. The first edition of „Heartbreaker“ was sold out in a very short time and had to be reprinted. Songs from the AOR album got regular airplay in Germany from the north (Radio Schleswig-Holstein) to the south (Antenne Bavaria). In june AOR track "Catriona“ is one of the most played singles on „Radio Gong“ (Munich). In december 1989 keyboarder Werner Kaul leaves BAD SISTER.

An extensive club-tour started in the beginning of 1990. Special highlight is the support of former Deep Purple-shouter Ian Gillan at his „Naked Thunder“-tour. BAD SISTER is considered to be a furios live-act, with a lot of gigs all over the country. During the tour of 1990 a live-tape was recorded at the „Traumfabrik“ in Kiel. But at first this tape was to be forgotten ...

After the tour the band signed a contract with the label "Hurricane Records“ (Southern Germany). "Heartbreaker“ was up to now only as an LP available and now is published as CD and MC. The band takes part at the "Yamaha live for Tokyo", the video "Catriona

is broadcasted on „Tele 5“ (Munich). In the meantime the band members are composing songs for the second album. And - culture is discovering rock-music: BAD SISTER receives the culture award of Pinneberg county.

1991

In july/august BAD SISTER is back in the studio again to record 13 further songs for the second album „Out Of The Business“. Sound and style of the band has changed again – heavier and louder with a lot of guitars. Anyway, the Sisters stay true to melodious hooklines, straight hard rock and classical AOR-tunes. Birger Holm is producing the tracks again and BAD SISTER acts as a co-producer, a new and challenging experience for the band members. Special guest on „Out Of The Business“ is Germany’s most famous rock-guitarist Alex Conti (Lake, Atlantis). He contributes the lead-guitar on „How Much Love" and „Bad Attitude“.

But the band approaches a crisis: Singer Petra wants to go her own musical way.

1993-1996

In the beginning of 1993 Petra leaves the band and BAD SISTER has to decide about its future. The search for a new frontgirl gets difficult, but finally the band has a new voice: Suzi Lohmar, a powerful rock-shouter from Kiel, is the right choice to move forward. 1995 a pleasant surprise: „Out Of The Business“ is distributed in Japan and a lot of BAD SISTER-CD’s are sold in the land of the rising sun. Very positive reviews of the japanese AOR-scene are following. 1996 the breakup of the band: Kai-Ove (drums) and Kai (keyboards) leave the group, the other members carry on with other projects.

In 2001 the accidentally forgotten tapes of the live performance in Kiel are unearthed in a storage facility of sound engineer Frank Kaiser – a great recording of an appearance at the "Traumfabrik“ in august 1990. Astonished about the quality and the energy of the tape the former band members of BAD SISTER decide to reconvene and to release a Live-CD – more than six years after splitting up. In the studio of drummer Kai-Ove Kessler the tracks are remastered. Live on stage the group shows its best,  the CD „Bad Sister Live“ supplies evidence.
